On May 28, 2024, the consortium members of the “Raise Environmental Awareness for Deprived Youths – READY” project got together in Portugal to celebrate the successful completion of its activities.
Ilda Nahas, Jawhara Boutros Elias, Perla Naaman, and Alec Donerian represented the Lebanese Development Network (LDN) at the event held at the Centro Interpretativo do Património da Afurada in Porto.
The ceremony started with a welcome note followed by a general presentation about the Project provided simultaneously by the representatives of Right Challenge and ADL Zavidovici organizations.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gaiurb, EM, Engineer António Miguel Castro, delivered a speech titled “Empowering Youth for a Greener Future: Gaia Municipality's Initiative in Environmental Protection.”
A summary of the achievements and challenges related to the various Work Packages in addition to an introduction about the Platform were conducted by the national project coordinators from the European Association for Local Democracy (ALDA) – France, Community Volunteers Foundation (TOG) - Turkey, Arc en Ciel – Algeria, and Agence de la Démocratie Locale Tunisie (LDA) – Tunisia.
The program included a demonstration of the functions of the AirBeam device used during the activities – an air quality instrument that measures hyperlocal concentrations of harmful microscopic particles in the air, known as particulate matter, as well as humidity and temperature.
The event concluded with a field visit to the Douro Estuary Nature Reserve - Fauna & Flora.
'READY' seeks to strengthen the young beneficiaries' socio-ecological awareness, build their capacities, and develop their skills in campaigning, project management, communication, and advocacy.
